My New Time Management Strategy

My New Time Management Strategy

Article by Results Expert

My mind has been racing with ideas that I would like to try out on my blog. The problem is that I get caught up on the amount of time it takes to implement them.

Last weekend I created an idea for a series I want to create on MoE. The series is going to include 10-15 articles dedicated to a subject that I’m passionate about. My idea is unique and will offer tremendous value for you. It’s will make a huge difference for you as a leader.

My dilemma is that the series is going to take a lot of time to create. I have to double my production to really make it work.

What should I do?I can stay status quo and keep the content flow going at my current pace. Right now I publish an article every two weeks. I dedicate time to my blog at night or on weekends… whenever I’m not at work.

OR… I can turn it up a notch and make it happen. My success here is dependent on the quality and quantity of the articles I write.

The series will provide a way for me to create a lot of good quality articles that’ll really make a difference for you guys. The only thing holding me back is the time.

My Time Management Experiment I want to begin by giving you a brief summary of my daily schedule:

0530 – Wake up

0630 – Leave for work

0700 – Arrive at work

1700 – Leave work, pick kids up at school

1800 – Arrive home

1800-2000 – Family time

2000- Work on MoE

The truth is I’m exhausted when 8pm rolls around. My wife and I find it difficult to get the kids to bed and by the time I actually sit down and dedicate some time to the site, I don’t have the energy. I spend the first 15 hours of my day at work- making decisions, solving problems, commuting, etc. I don’t have a lot left to give at the end of the day.

When I created my idea over the weekend, I thought for a while about how to get it done. I can’t just add hours to the day… What should I do?

Then a light bulb went off.

Why do I wait until the end of the day to work on something that I enjoy? Why do I make it my last priority?

So I decided to “pay myself first” and dedicate the very first hour of my day to make this series a hit. After all I’m a morning person so why not wake up an hour earlier and work on it? It’s easy for me to get out of bed and start the day (especially when I’m excited about something). Why not play to my strengths?

So here’s how I rearranged my schedule:

0430 – Wake up

0515 – Work on MoE

0630 – Leave for work

0700 – Arrive at work

1700 – Leave work, pick kids up at school

1800 – Arrive home

1800-2000 – Family time

2000- Hang out and have fun

As you can see, I must rise an hour earlier, but I don’t mind. I actually enjoy it and I don’t need to worry about saving myself for the end of the day. Right now as I write this, it’s 5:56AM, and I’ve nearly finished this post in one sitting. This would’ve taken me a week to complete using my previous method.

Instead of fighting myself and everyone around me for time at the end of the day, I rearranged my schedule so there’s nobody competing with me. Everyone is asleep, no one is asking for my time, and I just finished the article.

So what’s the series gonna be about?

Stay tuned.
