Time Management Strategies – Transform Your Energy Using 5 Insights About Gratitude
Article by Paula Eder
Time management tips create fresh opportunities to cherish your life. Each time you find time to savor the entirity of your life, even with its difficult moments, you fulfill your capacity to be fully alive in the moment. Let yourself embrace the following 5 insights about gratitude. With these, you can create new meaning in your life, expanding your circle of power daily.
Gratitude Insight #1: Be your gratitude.
Gratitude is all-embracing. It squarely accepts the totality of your life. This in turn shapes how you view the world. Seeing your existence in this world with gratitude provides you with a powerful lens. By this lens you see through, you create meaning.
Opening to give thanks for your life frees you to enjoy the genuine opportunities that you have been given. Because gratitude enhances healthy humility, you ease up on yourself. Rather than judge yourself for what you have been unable to bring about, you notice all you have accomplished.
Gratitude Insight #2: Let others know you appreciate them.
Why go to the trouble of actively acknowledging others? Because it is a concrete way to let them know that you clearly see them. You open-handedly appreciate what they have done. Make sure your validation is specific. For example, “Thanks for reviewing my report. Your feedback was very helpful, and I appreciate the time that you took.”
Unconditional validation costs you nothing, and it goes a great way to creating an abundance mentality where others are more likely to cooperate and fully engage with you.
If it takes time to come up with specific actions to validate, consider it time well spent. It will help you understand others’ role in your life. This in turn gives you more to feel grateful about.
Gratitude Insight #3: Like attracts like.
This is a basic tenet of the Law of Attraction. You receive back what you put out. If you are negative and critical, then that energy enters the universe and attracts more of the same back to you. And by the same token, if you are grateful and loving, then the universe sends gratitude and love back to you. Your conscious efforts to cultivate gratitude prepare the ground for life’s gifts to take root.
Gratitude Insight #4: As you appreciate yourself, so you can appreciate others. In this way, your circle of gratitude will ripple outward.
You energize your life. And you can only give what you have. Imagine a well full of water. It is easy to draw from that source. Now imagine a dry well. It has no water; therefore, it cannot give any water. So set aside time every day. Honor your humanity, and give yourself credit for all the ways you work to support yourself and be there for others. Deep inside, you are always listening to the messages you give yourself. Make them loving.
Gratitude Insight #5: Feeling grateful creates a powerful antidote that neutralizes self-criticism and anxiety.
It is virtually impossible to be grateful and afraid, or grateful and self-critical, at the same time. Whenever you feel grateful, you bring to yourself genuine satisfaction, wholeness and a sense of completion.
If you have never thought of gratitude as a source of strength, give it a try. Andy Bey, born in 1939, was John Coltrane’s favorite male jazz vocalist. A remarkable baritone with 4-octave range, he has continued building a successful career. This is in spite of being diagnosed in 1994 as HIV positive.. In his words: “Did you know that gratefulness helps get rid of fear? … I’m so grateful to be able to do what I love, to have a purpose in life.”
Gratitude is within your power to create, and it gives you power. Why deny yourself this potent ally?
Gratitude will reshape your life, if you prioritize accordingly. Consider setting aside time to count your blessings, to open-heartedly share with others, and to make choices that validate your actual worth. Of course, this may require revising your schedule and even setting a few boundaries, to provide yourself with uninterrupted time. Ultimately, this may be one of the best investments in yourself that you have ever made. And you will reap its benefits all the time.
You can start building this potential now, by asking yourself: How can you start realigning your priorities around gratitude today to start finding more time?
